Shanghai became a busy port near Hangzhou, the South Song Dynasty’s capital, which the Mongols invaded in 1276. Then that the Song ruler had to leave Hangzhou and eventually ended up in today’s Kowloon City. Unfortunately, the Mongols chased the emperor and its entourage down to Kowloon City and terminated the Song Dynasty in the last battle of Yamen in 1279.
