Shanghai could take a short break on symbolic development in physical infrastructure. Physical development is okay. Now, the next step is to think about how to become a more purposeful city with diverse interests.
In finance, business, logistics, high-value manufacturing, or the combination of those, to become an international center, the accumulation of collective experience and expertise is a mandatory task. In this sense, Shanghai is, in contrast to its strong aspiration, critically deficient. And, by these observations alone, I understood why the stock market there is not performing well, or not in the way people wants it to be. That is because the accumulation of financial market expertise is still critically lacking.
