ATMs are all over the place and quite reliable. Most banks change cash or travelers’ checks denominated in both dollars and euros. Suvarnabhumi airport has a few ATM machines tucked away toward the exits.
Tipping: Most restaurants include a service charge, so tip 50 or 100 baht if you liked the service (more if you’re at a very classy restaurant). Round up taxi fares if your driver was friendly. 100 baht tip for a massage is fine and golf caddies usually expect at least 300 baht for 18 holes. A bell-hop will be happy with 50 baht. Note to Americans: break the habit while you’re here! Don’t tip 15 or 20 percent unless you really want to make someone’s day.
Typical Southeast Asian business hours: shops open daily, mid-morning and stay open well into the evening, till about 9 or 10 pm. For late-night needs there’s 7-Eleven (24 hours) or food stalls. Bangkok street food is some of the best on the planet. Try Chinatown (Thai word: Yaowarat) for seafood, sweets and durian.
